Girl Power reignsat MoEF&CC’s International Day for Biodiversity Short Paper Competition 2021

The International Day for Biodiversity is Celebrated Every Year On 22nd May. This Year the Theme of the eventwas ‘We are Part of the Solution’. A Short Paper Writing Competition was conducted as part of thecelebration. The participants were required to complement the theme of the event and this year all top three winners are the students and alumnus of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam:

First Place- Ms. Tejaswini Mishra (LL.M)- Ms. Mishra’s short paper was on theprojections of Bioprospecting in India. The paper highlighted the Indian legal aspects of the bioprospecting in the light of Convention on Biodiversity.

Second Place- Ms. Ananya Gogoi (3rd Year, B.A.LL.B)- Ms. Gogoi’s paper was on Deepor Beel - Need for Active Conservation. Her paper portrayed the escalating pressure on this Ramsar site due to several infrastructural and commercial developments thereby threatening this fragile ecosystem. She strongly advocated, augmenting the community role in tackling unedifying environmental issues such as this by taking small steps to further contribute to a greater cause.

Third Place- Ms. Titikhya Barkataki, (Alumnus, Batch of 2020)- Ms. Barkataki’s paper emphasized upon the Essence of Rich Medicinal Plantation of Assam and its Conservation as a part of Traditional Knowledge and Practice.

National Law University and Judicial Academy and its Centre for Environmental Law congratulates all the winners for their scholastic achievement and wishes them good luck for their future endeavors.

 


National Constitution Society: NLUJA, Assam Chapter hosted Constitution Day, as mandated by the Bar Council of India on February 26, 2020, that aims to create, celebrate and practice India's Constitutional values. A discussion was held on one of the Supreme Court's landmark judgements: Shakti Vahini v. Union of India (2018) 7 SCC 192.

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) moot court team comprising of Ms. Chitrakshi Singh, Mr. Abhinav Singh and Mr. Darshan Upadhyaya (students of B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) participated at the 16th K. K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition and emerged as Winners.

The team comprising of Karunesh Shukla and Rohit Ghosh, both of 5th Year, has won Silver in Carrom; Vaibhav Ghildiyal of 2nd Year has won Silver in 400 m Sprint Athletics and Bronze in Long Jump; The team comprising of Khushal Gujjar and Yash Goyal, of 5th and 2nd Year respectively, finished in the top six; Danish Faraz of 1st Year finished 4th in Shot Put at Virudhaka 2019, that was organized by NLIU Bhopal.

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) moot court team comprising of Mr. Kunwar Kushagra, Miss. Amisha Raghuwanshi and Miss Ankita Jha (students of B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) participated at the Surana and Surana National Trial Advocacy Moot Court Competition along with Surana and Surana National Judgment Writing Competition (West Rounds), organized by Surana and Surana International Attorneys and Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune from 18th – 20th September 2015. 20 teams participated in the Competition. The team from NLUJAA was adjudged  Second Runners Up in the Judgment Writing Competition.

National Commission for Women sponsored Quiz on Rights of the Women and Children: Under the aegis of the National Commission for Women, the Committee had organised a quiz competition on Rights of Women and Children on November 18, 2017 in the Academic Block, NLUJAA. The Quiz Master for the event was Tathagat Sharma of 3rd year. There were around 40 Questions in the Quiz were Vaibhav Shukla and Pranoy Goswami and Anshuman Pandey and Brijbhan Singh Rajawat finished runners up. There were also 5 other runners up. Cash prizes were awarded to all the 7 teams.


Special lecture delivered by Mr. Aditya Diwakar and Mr. Shiva Srinivasan, Partners at Diwakar & Srinivasan, Bengaluru, on the topic 'Start up Enterprises' on March 05, 2017.

Mr. Anmol Shrivastava and Mr. Paritosh Awasthi participated and presented a paper on the theme "Ensuring Victim's Participation in Criminal Justice System" titled Plea Bargaining vis-a-vis Alternative Dispute Resolution: Saviour for victims in Criminal Cases at the International Conference of Victimology held at Institute of Law, Nirma University on February 23-25, 2017.

Mr. Subornadeep Bhattacharjee, a student of Fourth Year, B.A.,LL. B (Hons.) was awarded the 'Star of IDIA Award for 2016' at the Annual Awards Ceremony held in Mumbai on the 15th October, 2016. He has also, been one of the five All India recipients of the IDIA-J.Sagar Fellowship for 2016, which carries a fellowship amount of Rs. 50,000/-

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) drama society comprising of Mr. Nitesh Dwiwedi, Mr Paranjay Sharma, Mr. Sandeep Jain, Mr. Suyash Tripathi, Mr. Prakash Kinchi, Mr. Tushar Solanki, Mr. Vishwajeet Netam, Mr. Rana Ranveer, Mr. Ankit Kumar, Mr. Prannoy Joe Sebestian, Ms. Aakrtiti Nautiyal, Mr. Vaibhav Shukla, Mr. Karunesh Shukla, Mr. Adit Sharma, Mr. Siddharth Shrivastava, Ms. Ruchira Pareek, Ms. Rashi Rawat, Mr. Paritosh Awasthi, Mr. Anmol and Ms. Nivedita Jha participated at Tooryanaad'16, organized by Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal on September 10 - 12 2016. The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) moot court team comprising of Mr. Mohit Singh, Ms. Manavi Joshi, Ms. Divya Sharma (3rd year students of B.A.,LL.B (Hons.)) participated at the LEGULEIAN 2016, Moot Court Competition organized by University Law College, Gauhati University, Guwahati on September 14 2016. The team secured 4th position in the competition.

Also, Ms. Manavi Joshi was declared as the " Best Pleader" in the competition.

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) moot court team comprising of Ms. Nidhi Gupta, Ms. Ritisha Rajkhowa and Ritu Singh (4th year students of B.A.,LL.B (Hons.)) participated at 4th KIIT National Moot Court Competition, 2016 organized by School of Law, KIIT University in collaboration with J. Sagar Associates on September 14 2016. This Moot Court Competetion witnessed participation from 57 Law Schools/Universities, and the NLUJAA Team bagged the 'Best Memorial Award' with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

NLUJAA hosts inaugural Charity "NLUJAA-IDIA Food Fest" to raise funds under newly unveiled "University Social Responsibility (USR)" Scheme.

National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam hosted a Food Festival on campus on May 7, 2016. The event with its theme "Cook for a Cause", was hosted under the newly unveiled 'University Social Responsibility' (USR) Scheme, in joint collaboration with the IDIA Charitable Trust, a trust based out of Bengaluru, involved with supporting the education of underprivileged and specially abled children from marginalized sections of the society, across several other National Law Schools in the country. The trust was represented by the student volunteers of the IDIA North- East Chapter, which is operated out of NLUJAA, as per practice in the other National Law Schools as well. The event saw widespread participation by both faculty members and members of the student fraternity, who came out to 'Cook for a Cause'. The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of the University- Prof. (Dr.) Vijender Kumar and Registrar of the University, Dr. Himanshu Pandey graciously inaugurated the event. With lip-smacking items on offer, the event eventually saw a total of Rs. 24, 565/- being collected, the proceeds of which has been donated to the IDIA Charitable Trust. We, at NLUJAA, sincerely hope, that the amount donated plays a pivotal role in supporting the legal education of talented children pursuing their studies from the other National Law Schools and sets up an example for other institutions of law to emulate in the country.

Mr. Pranav Bhardwaj, 2nd Year B.A.,LL.B. (Hons.) was awarded as Runner-Up at "Hackathon" held as a part of "Make in India" event from February 10 - 16, 2016 at IIT Bombay. The event had called for the ideas for finding innovative solution for urban design problem and contributing towards Smart Cities.

The Moot court team comprising of Ms. Dipali rai, Mr. Saptarshi Das and Mr. Shashank Pathak (5th year students of B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) participated at the 2nd IIT Kharagpur National Moot Court Competition, 2015 organised by Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law (RGSOIPL), IIT Kharagpur from 6th – 8th November 2015. 30 teams had participated at this competition and out of them Mr. Shashank Pathak was awarded the Best Researcher award.

NLU, ASSAM MOOT COURT TEAM WINS THE 4TH INTERNATIONAL BANKING AND INVESTMENT LAW (IBAIL) MOOT COURT COMPETITION 2015

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) moot court team consisting of Subornodeep Bhattacharjee, Utkarsh Kumar (IIIrd Year) and Khushboo Vasandani (IInd  Year) represented NLUJAA at the 4th International Banking and Investment Law (IBAIL) Moot Court Competition 2015. The event was organized by Seedling School of Law and Governance, Jaipur National University in Jaipur, Rajasthan from 9th to 11th October 2015. This Moot Court competition witnessed participation from 50 Law Schools/Law Universities, and the NLUJAA team emerged as the Winners. The team has been awarded with a cash prize of Rs.25,000/- and Mr. Subornodeep Bhattacharjee is awarded the Best Advocate at this moot court competition.

The event was organized by School of Law, KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, Orissa from 18th to 20th September 2015. This Moot Court competition witnessed participation from 46 Law Schools/Law Universities, and the NLUJAA team emerged as the 2nd Runners – Up with a cash prize of Rs.25,000/-.

The event was organized by University Five Year Law College, University of Rajasthan in collaboration with Ranka Public Charitable Trust in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Orissa from 26th to 28th September 2015. This Moot Court competition witnessed participation from 48 Law Schools/Law Universities, and the NLUJAA team emerged as the 2nd Runners – Up.

Mr. Rajesh Harlalka, 3rd Year and Ms. Filzah Belal, 1st Year, B.A.,LL.B. (Hons.) took part in the IIT Guwahati Model United Nations Conference held from September 4 to 6, 2015 and delibrated on “Privatisation of War: Formulating Protocols for Hiring PMCs”. Ms. Filzah Belal won a High Commendation and Mr. Rajesh Harlalka won a Special Mention in the conference.
