International Yoga DayNLUJA, Assam observed International Yoga Day on June 21, 2021 in virtual mode. Members of NLUJA, Assam fraternity participated in the online session. Ms. Meenakshi Barthakur, Consultant Psychologist at NLUJA, Assam illustrated how yoga can bust stress. Yoga teacher Shri Jayesh Gosai demonstrated Yoga practices for healthy living. Dr. Kankana Baishya, Asst. Librarian at NLUJA, Assam spoke on the benefits of meditation and also demonstrated meditation techniques. | ||

World Environment DayNational Law University, Assam organised a webinar on World Environment Day (June 5, 2021) under Bharat ka Amrit Mahotsav as instructed by University Grants Commission (UGC). Prof. Deepa Badrinarayana from Dale E. ![]() Girl Power reignsat MoEF&CC’s International Day for Biodiversity Short Paper Competition 2021 The International Day for Biodiversity is Celebrated Every Year On 22nd May. This Year the Theme of the eventwas ‘We are Part of the Solution’. A Short Paper Writing Competition was conducted as part of thecelebration. The participants were required to complement the theme of the event and this year all top three winners are the students and alumnus of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam: First Place- Ms. Tejaswini Mishra (LL.M)- Ms. Mishra’s short paper was on theprojections of Bioprospecting in India. The paper highlighted the Indian legal aspects of the bioprospecting in the light of Convention on Biodiversity. Second Place- Ms. Ananya Gogoi (3rd Year, B.A.LL.B)- Ms. Gogoi’s paper was on Deepor Beel - Need for Active Conservation. Her paper portrayed the escalating pressure on this Ramsar site due to several infrastructural and commercial developments thereby threatening this fragile ecosystem. She strongly advocated, augmenting the community role in tackling unedifying environmental issues such as this by taking small steps to further contribute to a greater cause. Third Place- Ms. Titikhya Barkataki, (Alumnus, Batch of 2020)- Ms. Barkataki’s paper emphasized upon the Essence of Rich Medicinal Plantation of Assam and its Conservation as a part of Traditional Knowledge and Practice. National Law University and Judicial Academy and its Centre for Environmental Law congratulates all the winners for their scholastic achievement and wishes them good luck for their future endeavors.

The panelists of the event were Dr. Manjeri Subin Sundar Raj, former assistant professor of law at NLSIU, Bangalore and Supreme Court Lawyer and Shirshendu Sekhar Das, founder of The Midway Journey, a waste management startup. |

The Chair on Intellectual Property Rights at National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) hosted a webinar on "Protection of Semi-conductor Integrated Circuit Layout Designs" by Ojeswini Bondalapati, Patent Agent, Hyderabad. 53 participants from 38 institutes from all over India participated in the webinar. The basics of electronic terminologies with respect to Diode, Transistor, Semi-conductor, Layout, Topography, Circuit and Integrated Circuit were introduced by the speaker. The principle which led to India’s sui generis stem, to regulate the unfair market access as the driving force to stay away from extending the patent protections to Layout designs was presented. The same position in US which led to the USA enacting its 1984 Semi-conductor Protection Act(SCPA) was discussed. The requirements, procedures and the final effect when protected by a design registration in the Semi-Conductor Integrated Circuit Layout Design Registry(SICLDR) of India was discussed. Licensing, assigning, appealing against Registrar’s orders and the ensuing Offenses and Penalties for transgression and innocent infringement were discussed. Finally, the preference of the inventors to stay away from their design registration and trending case laws were discussed. |
