The National Legal Service Authority Act, 1987 (NALSA) mandates all the law schools, universities and law colleges in the country to establish a Legal Aid Cell in their respective premises. Accordingly a Legal Aid Cell is being established at the University in collaboration with the District Legal Service Authority, Kamrup, in accordance with the provisions of the National Legal Service Authority Act, 1987. The objectives of the Cell are to help the needy, the helpless and the downtrodden people in the society to access justice and also act as a bridge between the justice seeker and justice giver in the state.
Legal Aid Awareness Programme by Legal Aid Cell, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam
The Legal Aid Cell, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam had organized a Child Awareness programme at Fairyland High School, Khanapara on 5th March 2016. The agenda of deliberation was to create awareness among the students about the use and issues of social media and consumer rights. The session was organized in the presence of the school teachers and members of the Legal Aid Cell, NLUJAA. Pamphlets on the issue of ‘Cyber Stalking’ were distributed and student members of Legal Aid Cell, NLUJAA made presentations on legal implications and consequences relating to the crime of cyber stalking. The students were enthusiastic during the interaction as they got to learn the practical aspects of the issues.
