ABOUT

CENTRE FOR DISABILITY STUDIES AND HEALTH LAWS

‘Nothing about us without us’, is the basic mantra of deliberation in Disability discipline. The Centre for Disability Studies & Health Laws (CDSHL), National Law University Assam is the one such platform which aims at bringing the people from academia, research, government departments, non-governmental organizations, along with the other stake holders. The Centre for Disability Studies & Health Laws (CDSHL), is only of its kind functioning in the North-East Region. The region is lacking in disability-rights oriented deliberations. The main reason for the same is the tough geographical conditions, scattered human habitation, problem of transportation and communication, weak healthcare delivery system, natural disaster, lack of awareness, poverty, and poor infrastructure and accessibility. This centre will serve as the role model for taking dialogue into reality. While bridging this gap, centre will try to set a standard for right to ‘act’ in terms of the modern day disability jurisprudence. The idea is also highlighted under the provisions of United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and further tried to be archived by resent Disability Laws of the country.

There is a plan and a purpose, a value to every life, no matter what its location, age, gender or disability.

    - Sharron Angel

For me, disability is a way of getting some extremity, some kind of very difficult situation, that throws an interesting light on people.

    - Mark Haddon

My advice to other disabled people would be, concentrate on things your disability doesn't prevent you doing well, and don't regret the things it interferes with. Don't be disabled in spirit as well as physically.

    - Stephen Hawking

I've had tons of bullies who would call me retarded, even on my Facebook page. It's sad and it really hurts. I want to tell people not to use the word. Don't say your friend's retarded when they do something foolish. If you have a disability, keep working hard. Whatever it takes, do it, and don't be mean to people.

    - Lauren Potter

The way my brain processes information is quite odd. I mean, I have Attention Deficit Disorder and another learning disability I can't even spell. I don't even have a high school diploma. I'm smart, but you can't prove it on paper.
